DESTINATIONS

Lake Nakuru National Park

You can reach this park 160 km northwest of the state capital Nairobi. The alkaline Lake Nakuru forms the heart of the 188 sq km, popularly visited protected area.

In 1967, Nakuru was declared Africa's first bird conservation national park. It includes the lake and its surrounding area.

Nakuru is famous for its 2 million flamingos. A fantastic sight! You can get out of the vehicle on the shore and view the unique scenery. During the breeding season, colonies of flamingos can even be observed on their nests. A unique natural spectacle!

A further 450 bird species, including 90 different waterfowl, have been recorded here.

But around 50 species of mammals also live in the surrounding forest areas and grassy areas. Buffaloes, gazelles, zebras, Rothschild giraffes, baboons, warthogs and of course waterbucks roam here.

Here in Nakuru National Park, special attention is paid to an integrated conservation area for white and black rhinos! Endangered animals from all over Kenya are housed here and guarded around the clock by rangers. This is a last intensive attempt to prevent or at least delay the extinction of these prehistoric animals.

On the eastern shore of the lake is the largest euphorbia forest in Africa!

This national park in Kenya is also definitely worth a visit, you are spoiled for choice!
