DESTINATIONS
Shaba National Reserve
Shaba is the largest (240 sq km) of the three related ecosystems: Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba. Nestled between mountains and along the Ewaso Nyiro River, there is an enchanting landscape. The river rises in the Aberdare Range, flows north and cascades down the 72m Thompson Falls at Nyahururu. From there it continues east in an arc over Archer's Post.
The Shaba Reserve is named after the copper-colored sandstone hill Shaba, the contemporary witness to the fossilized lava flows that flowed out of the Nyambeni Heights 5.000 years ago.
Some springs attract wildlife: e.g. oryx, gerenuk (giraffe gazelles), Grevy's zebras, reticulated giraffes, elephants, buffalo, various antelopes, lions, cheetahs, leopards, mongooses, black-backed jackals, crocodiles and over 400 species of birds!

Excellent guide, excellent tour, and very easy communication and advice from DAN Tours – highly recommended!Posted on Birgit KrauseTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We thank Dan Magical Tours for the fantastic organization of our safari, but especially for accommodating our request for a German-speaking tour guide. We had the nicest and most dedicated tour guide we could have wished for. We spent seven days on safari with Katana, our driver, in four national parks, and it was indescribably wonderful. Thanks to Katana, every day was a highlight. He gave us many insights into Kenyan life as well as the breathtaking wildlife. We always listened to his stories with great interest, and he was almost always able to answer our questions. It was amazing how quickly he tracked down the animals, and he always strived to get as close as possible. We also appreciated that we weren't always following a convoy of jeeps, but were always a little off the beaten track, allowing us to observe animals undisturbed that others missed. His entire organization and time management were simply superb. Katana is also a very pleasant and considerate driver. The drives were generally very relaxing. But thank you again to Dan Magical Tours for the fantastic selection of lodges in the respective national parks. We felt warmly welcomed in all the accommodations and enjoyed every single stay. Thank you Dan Magical Tours, thank you Katana 🫶Posted on Hilmi StuberTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our safari was an absolute highlight! Our guide, James, made the experience truly unforgettable. Despite the heavy rain, he drove us safely and calmly through the terrain. He was incredibly friendly, very knowledgeable, and took plenty of time to explain the animals and the natural environment to us in detail. Thanks to his experience, he knew exactly where we needed to go, allowing us to see many impressive animals up close. You can immediately tell that James is passionate about his work. He ensured that we felt safe and comfortable at all times and made the safari a truly special experience. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience – we would book another safari with James anytime and highly recommend him!Posted on Manuela ElsenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had 3 unforgettable days in Tsavo West and Amboseli with Ismail, from lions and cubs to close encounters with buffalo, elephants, zebras, antelopes, pelicans and so much more 🤗 Many thanks to Ismail for the really long but exciting and safe journey home from Amboseli to Mombasa 🤗Posted on Andreas DehneTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Everything was superbly organized, and Ali was an incredibly interesting safari guide who told us all about the animals and the country. He also has a sixth sense for the best locations and even spotted lion cubs for us!Posted on anonymous anonymousTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an unforgettable dream trip to Kenya. The trip was planned by Manuela Zwenger, who provided us with excellent and thorough advice. She was always available and responded quickly and professionally to all our requests. We would plan and book another trip with her without hesitation. She also successfully arranged for us to have a German-speaking driver. Our driver was Katana, and he was an extremely important part of our trip. Katana picked us (a group of four) up directly at Mombasa airport and accompanied us throughout the entire journey. Our first destination was the Soroi Cheetah Lodge, where we stayed for three nights. It's a fantastic lodge with wonderful game drives. We don't know how Katana always spots the animals so easily, but we saw an incredible number of them, and he was able to provide us with a wealth of information about them. He also approached the animals with great respect. We witnessed situations where other vehicles drove into the bush to chase a cheetah. In our opinion, this is unacceptable and is probably also prohibited. Katana was completely different. We also saw many animals, but always respected them. The next lodge was the Tulia Amboseli Safari Camp. It's within sight of Kilimanjaro and has its own unique landscape. The proximity to Kilimanjaro is certainly one of the highlights. After two nights, we continued on to the Severin Safari Camp in Tsavo West. Another truly beautiful camp, with its own waterholes for the animals and, just like the Cheetah Lodge, excellent cuisine. The wildlife was once again incredibly diverse. After another two nights, we returned to Mombasa. Since we still had some time, Katana drove us around Mombasa and showed us a bit of the city before we headed back to the airport. All in all, it was a five-star-plus vacation for us. Manuela's planning was perfect (Chat GPD called it an outstandingly organized trip), and Katana's tour leadership left nothing to be desired. The Cheetah and Severin lodges were outstanding for us, and the view of Kilimanjaro from Tulia Lodge was particularly impressive. We highly recommend DAN Magical Tours and Manuela for planning and booking.Posted on Hendrik LauTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. An absolutely fantastic safari. We can highly recommend DM Tours! 🤩 Everything was very professionally organized. We booked and paid for the tour in advance from Germany. Communication with Manuela was excellent. The safari vehicles are very well-equipped with a cooler and water, and they are very well-maintained. We had a wonderful 3-day safari in Tsavo West 🦒 and Tsavo East 🐘. Our driver, Ismael, was simply fantastic!! He explained a lot about the animals and the country and was very friendly! A huge thank you and much praise to him! 🦁😉 This was our second time booking a safari with DM Tours, and it certainly won't be the last. Thank you so much for these wonderful experiences. Best regards! 👍🦓🦬
