Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary

The Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a private wildlife sanctuary located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro on the eastern edge of the southern Tsavo West National Park. Located in the flat plain to the east of the up to 2200m high chain of the Taita Hills covered with rain/cloud forests, you can see the backdrop of the primeval mountain slopes that were formed an estimated 30 million years ago. The landscape is characterized by savanna with bushes and rock formations.

With an area of ​​around 110 square kilometers, the protected area is a habitat for over 50 mammal and 300 bird species. With a bit of luck you will encounter elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, impalas, waterbucks, kudus, dik-diks, Thomson's gazelles, leopards, lions and much more.

Animal watching trips are possible not only in the game reserve itself, but also in the adjacent Tsavo West National Park.
