aberdares national park

Aberdare National Park is located in central Kenya in the Aberdare mountain range, whose peaks rise up to 4000 m and its foothills are forested with dense mountain jungle.

Lord Aberdare (President of the Royal Geographical Society) was the patron saint of this 1950 sq km national park, founded in 766, about 100 km north of Nairobi.

Located in the immediate vicinity of the Nyandarua Mountains, the Aberdare massif including the forested foothills is a mountain range of volcanic origin.

Accordingly, the climate is characterized by fog and rain.

A series of waterfalls, organized mountain hikes with rangers and overnight stays in a lodge in the middle of the forest in a clearing are part of the extraordinary offer of this jungle world.

Elephants, buffalo, bushbuck and waterbuck, giant forest hogs and leopards are at home in the dense greenery of the Aberdares. The prehistoric black rhinos also appear like ghosts at night at the lodge's waterhole.

The last representatives of the Kenya bongos live particularly shyly and in secret. If there were a beauty contest for African antelopes, the bongo would definitely come in first! Standing 1,25 m tall at the shoulder, this antelope has bright red to chestnut brown fur coats marked with narrow white stripes. A hidden beauty in the Wonder Forest!

A visit to the Aberdares offers the perfect contrast to the typical safari in the African wilderness.
