DESTINATIONS

Lake Naivasha

The largest freshwater lake in Kenya's East African Rift Valley is called Lake Naivasha and is located around 70 km northeast of Nairobi. The good location makes this destination an ideal excursion destination or an overnight stopover during a safari.

The lake is bounded to the north by the Emburru volcano, to the south by the Olkaria volcanic complex and Mount Longonot, to the west by the rift edge of the Mau Escarpment and to the east by the Aberdare volcanic complex. The rain-rich Aberdare Mountains in particular feed this lake, which is why, in contrast to other lakes, it has a freshwater character.

The main tributaries are the Malewa and Gilgil rivers. There is no above-ground drainage, but significant groundwater flows into deeper basins are expected.

Lake Naivasha is subject to severe fluctuations in water levels due to weather conditions.

Water birds of all kinds find their paradise here. Pelicans, herons, spotted eagles, geese and ducks populate the lake.

You can book a boat tour, admire the beautiful scenery on the water and sail through groups of hippos. A very special experience!

Wildebeests and impalas graze on the banks. Private wildlife corridors allow wildlife to come to the lake to drink in the dry season.

At some places along the banks, Kenyans meet for picnics or camping. A beautifully relaxed atmosphere invites visitors to a stay at Lake Naivasha.

Enjoy a relaxing day with us in this beautiful environment!
